Good 4k resolution and parking features. App works on older phones and head units.

Good 4k resolution and parking features. App works on older phones and head units.
Best dash cam I've had out of many I've tried over the years. Great 4k picture and functionality. Decent app that worked on my older Android head unit to show rear camera all the time. After three months I still love it.Picture is great, true 4K front and back. Night performance is OK. Bright sky darkens image. No motion blur in sunlight, lots at night. Front camera has heavy sharpening applied, rear is natural and pleasant looking; wish front could be the same.Installation in minivan was uncomplicated. Front mount is a little weak and tricky to get level. Long cord to rear still had 3 feet extra. Can flip front/back cameras if mounted upside-down. Timelapse mode requires hardwire kit with +5V ACC signal on CC1/CC2 pins of USB-C connector, which some provide. Optional timelapse mode doesn't use less power, but has options to stop after 4-24 hours so it doesn't drain battery excessively. Parking monitor mode, which just turns on if vibration, just needs constant power and not the extra ACC line and uses virtually no power (<1mA). Long cords seem good quality with thicker wires.Phone linking is pretty good. 2.4GHz/5GHz selectable Wi-Fi. Worked with older Android 8 phone and Android head unit in car, and video played smoothly. Can show live feed of rear camera on Android head unit with app, very nice. Miofive S1 app provides full control of camera and options, but is NOT necessary to use dashcam and set its options. No account needed except to share clips. Downloading clips is easy to album stored on phone.Camera is well-built. Pretty heavy (0.28 lb.). Large, detailed screen. Can show front/rear/both views. Decent controls. Quick button to save current and next minute into emergency recordings folder. Full setting of all options from camera in menus. Can replay clips on camera. Polarizer connects with 27mm inside-diameter female threads. Standard eyepiece 28.5mm polarizer did NOT fit.Sound is decent, not muffled. Only 16kHz sampling rate. Talking is easy to hear and understand. No rattling sounds.Files stored in mp4 video, separate files for front and rear, ~30Mbps H.265, 64kbps 16kHz AAC audio. One-minute clips, no way to make longer. Short clips minimize loss in case of corruption. Other cameras use .ts files but mp4 is more compatible. Separated into folders: emergency, normal, parking, timelapse, photos. Memory card connects to PC or phone normally. App allows wireless batch copying of files to phone.Ai features are interesting. I did have it reminding me to go when vehicle in front moved forward and left some space.Minor issues:* Memory card not present only gives verbal warning, screen message, and flashing lights, all easy to miss. Should beep every minute until you turn off or put card in.* App requires phone with cell data to download firmware update.* Front camera has heavy sharpening applied.

Fantastic Dashcam

Reviewed in the United States on September 29, 2024

This camera is well priced and the video quality is excellent. No issue making out license plates. It’s easy to view videos, no need to remove the SD card, you can just view them from the app. The app works well as well.

Other reviews have complained about the cameras voice, and I will agree it’s super annoying, but it’s easy to turn off. You can edit the settings using the app and mute the camera voice.

AI is annoying and the front camera mounts too low for a sedan.

Reviewed in the United States on September 19, 2024

I like the image quality, but I wish I had gotten a slimmer camera. This hangs low and blocks a significant portion of my accords windshield view. I had to mount it on the right of the rearview mirror. There is no way I would have mounted it on the driver’s side or below the mirror.

Also, then AI is annoying. It keeps verbally telling me to move forward in traffic. AI might be useful if it worked well and minimized its comments. It might be possible to turn off these announcements, I will update my review when I figure out if this is possible (instructions are not in the manual).

Works well, custom service is excellent

The cam was easy to set up and works very well, even without considering that it is a bargain, and the customer support is quick and effective. My only suggestion to the manufacturer is to make the instruction manual sufficiently detailed to reduce or eliminate the need to contact customer support while setting up the cam.

Great Dashcam

Reviewed in the United States on July 18, 2024

.I had purchased another camera and returned it twice after getting a replacement. It kept freezing up during use. and the user manual was very poor. This camera is fantastic and doesn’t cost as much as many for sale on Amazon. It has voice commands and the settings menu, the user manual and the website are all easy to understand. I had it installed at Best Buy for $99 and the tech there was impressed with the camera as well. I looked at the reviews of many dash cams for sale at Amazon, and at best the reviews were so so. Give this one a try. You will not be disappointed.

S1 –– Things you should know:

Reviewed in the United States on September 2, 2024

Style: S1(4K)Verified Purchase

I’m posting this to help other buyers be aware of issues before purchasing…
The S1 probably is as good as some reviewers say, BUT
Because of the problems I encountered I can’t use this dash-cam, so I can’t comment on how well it performs.
I would have returned it but illness prevented me from trying to install it within the time frame to return it expired.
I hope MioFive will consider replacing my device.

I purchased the MioFive S1 in June from Amazon.
I believe that I was sent a defective device (there were missing parts AND
it seems like someone had trouble programing it, so returned it).

The manual’s directions aren’t easy to follow, they do not clearly correspond to the dash-cam’s buttons and digital controls.
Some features seem to have been previously set and are no longer accessible to be changed:
• the date is incorrect
•the screen image is upside down
therefore the buttons no longer correspond to the screen
controls (left, right, back, select).
•the device’s built-in menus are frozen
•because the screen is frozen, the “format” function is
inaccessible
•the directions say to format the Micro-SD card before using,
but the cam immediately starts to record when turned on,
•there’s no way to stop the incessant voice announcements.
•Reset and restart/reboot do not work.

•All of the above suggests that the S1 had been used and
returned before I received it.

•Other issues include:
•The FIRST instruction in the manual says:
“1 To Install the electrostatic sticker…
Park your car in a safe area, and turn off the car engine.
Take out the electrostatic sticker from the packing box and install it in the
recommended area on the windshield, as shown in the figure below. Please clean
the windshield and remove the air bubbles between the electrostatic sticker
and the windshield during the installation.”
Later it says:
“Note: Please DO NOT attach the dash cam with the sticker to the
windshield before the camera CALIBRATION to ensure the AI
feature works properly.”
•A lot of new vehicles no longer have cigarette lighter outlets (CLO)
and have only a few USB-A or -C ports which are often used
for charging or Apple / Android Play or other devices.
• for some large vehicles, such as full-size trucks and buses, the cable
provided is not long enough to connect the cam to a power source and be
concealed. You can only get 11.5 ft of cable, but it comes as
part of their Hardwire Kit ($29).
MioFive does not provide anything longer and I haven’t found any
other long cables that will work.
•Correct me if I’m wrong – I don’t see how MioFive can claim AI
capability, which is an intense computing process. There are a
few useful features which they call AI, but it seems it’s just
special software.

•The Hardwire Kit (extra) comes with a number of parts,
including fuses and special wires with fittings (TAPS)
which are supposed to plug into fuse slots.
WHAT IS NOT MENTIONED IS THAT THEY ARE INCOMPATIBLE
with at least some 2024 GM full-size trucks (and probably others). GM now mostly uses triple blade fuses and fuse slots.
A few fuses are mini or micro with two blades.
The fuses and taps provided by MioFive are standard two-bladed types. Not good.
The fuse boxes/panels in my truck are small and pretty crowded so you can’t easily get at the slots.

•Also included is a tool they call a CROW BAR!!!!!
It is actually a small piece of plastic you can use if you want to conceal the cables.

High tech, good design physically. Talks way too much, still trying to quiet it down.

It announces with a voice turning itself on. It tells you to ‘keep up with the front’ after every few stops in city traffic. The ‘AI’ features are junk. But the physical quality, video quality, price and packaging are excellent. I might be able to get the talking to stop, but it is NOT clearly stated in the manual.
